Situated just 12 kilometers south of Gaya, Bodh Gaya is where spiritual history pivoted in 528 BCE. Sitting in deep meditation under a sacred fig tree (*Ficus religiosa*), Siddhartha Gautama attained *Bodhi* (supreme awakening) and became the Buddha.

• Mahabodhi Temple Complex (UNESCO World Heritage): An imposing 50-meter pyramidal brick temple dating from the 5th–6th century CE, featuring golden finials and exquisite bas-reliefs.
• The Sacred Bodhi Tree & Vajrasana: The direct descendant of the original tree under which the Buddha sat upon the stone Diamond Throne (*Vajrasana*). Monks from around the world chant and meditate here daily.
• The Great Buddha Statue: An 80-foot seated stone statue unveiled by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1989.
